MOTANKA KULT Collection

The Ukrainian art platform UART.GALLERY presents a collaboration with sculptor Yaroslav Zaitsev — a series of contemporary sculptures titled “MOTANKA KULT.”

This project unites global artistic trends with the depth of Ukrainian sacred tradition. In Ukrainian culture, the motanka symbolizes protection, prosperity, and continuity of life. In this series, the artist steps away from traditional canons, incorporating elements of modern culture — including reinterpreted iconic footwear designs from well-known brands — into the image of the motanka.

Each of the five sculptures has its own pose, character, and name, revealing the inner essence of its image. Frozen between past and present, they remind us that tradition can also be contemporary.

The collection consists of five motankas:

1. Odarka (violet) — Her name comes from the word “to give.” With her palms held near her chest, the sculpture symbolizes generosity, grace, and inner peace. She seems to bless everyone who approaches her.

2. Boyana (red) — A symbol of courage and strength. Her name derives from the word “battle” and also has Turkic roots meaning “wealthy.” Her outstretched arms express the tension between defense and attack.

3. Solomiya (orange) — From the ancient word shalom, meaning “peace.” Her balanced posture radiates harmony and acceptance, embodying serenity and reconciliation.

4. Pavlina (yellow) — Modest and reserved, she holds her hands folded in front of her. Her name means “small” or “humble,” yet within her calm presence lies deep inner strength.

5. Vasylyna (blue) — Her Greek-derived name means “queen.” With her hands on her hips, she embodies willpower, confidence, and dignity — a figure of leadership and pride.

All sculptures are created in a totemic style, blending archaic motifs with modern design. They harmoniously fit into contemporary interiors while carrying profound cultural meaning.
The collection is produced in a limited edition.
